Troys Battle with Anger in August Wilsons Fences Essay
Troys Battle with Anger in August Wilsons Fences Conflicts and tensions between family members and friends are key elements in August Wilsons play, Fences. The main character, Troy Maxon, has struggled his whole life to be a responsible person and fulfill his duties in any role that he is meant to play. In turn, however, he has created conflict through his forbidding manner. The author illustrates how the effects of Troys stern upbringing cause him to pass along a legacy of bitterness and anger which creates tension and conflict in his relationships with his family. The narrator tells us that Rose is a gentle woman. She cares a great deal for her family and her husband, despite the challenge of making her home a positive environment under the strains of a man with such impossible qualities. The author explains her reasons for enduring Troy by saying that ? her devotion to him stems from her recognition of the possibilities of her life without him: a succession of abusive men and their babies, a life of partying and running the streets, the Church, or aloneness with its attendant pain and frustration? (526; I, 1). In light of the fact that Troy is a good man and provides for their family in a way of his duty, Rose loves and supports him and ?either ignores or forgiv es his faults, only some of which she recognizes? Romeo free essay sample
English IINovember 24, 2013 The Differences between versions of Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, can be changed in a variety of ways in order to help different audiences understand the very complex and tragic play. Two particular films that can compare in contrast are Gnomeo and Juliet, the Disney movie and the Leonardo DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet. While there are few similarities between the two films, the differences are evident; these prominent differences can be seen in the main characters, the plot, and intended audience. In Gnomeo and Juliet, the two characters meet completely by coincidence. They spotted a flower that they found marvelous and stunning, and Just happened to go out of both of their lawns Just to retrieve it at the same exact time, meeting and instantly becoming interested in one another. They were unaware that each was a descendant of the other family; contrastingly in Romeo and Juliet, they met at a cordial event; they were also unaware of the significant dissimilarity between their families. We will write a custom essay sample on Romeo or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Although both versions of the play result in Romeo pursuing Juliet, the differences can be easily distinguished. In Gnomeo and Juliet, Gnomeo marries Juliet after the family feud resolves, unlike in the DiCaprio film, where Romeo and Juliet are secretly wedded without the knowledge of their parents. Considering the similarities, both characters in mutual movies fall in love at first sight, further leading to the constant need to see one another, which as in both movies, they began seeing each other in secret. As well as in the main characters, evident differences can be seen in the plot of the two movies, Romeo and Juliet andGnomeo and Juliet. Gnomeo and Juliets plot consists of the two main haracters falling in love by the male character having to win the admiration of the female character. After earning the disapproval of the female character, the male character strives to achieve his purpose of earning her love throughout the course of the animated film. In contrast, in Romeo and Juliet, the two main characters have a mutual admiration for each other. Throughout the film, the two characters attempt to achieve their purpose of seeing each other without the knowledge or consent of either set of parents. These contrasting plots prove the evident differences between the two previously mentioned movies. Furthermore, the contrast of the two movies Romeo and Juliet and Gnomeo and Juliet can be further seen in the differences of the intended audiences of the two films. The animated and light aspects of the film prove that the film intends to reach a younger demographic. In contrast, the filmRomeo and Juliet has a more serious and intimate setting, proving that this film attempts to reach out to a more mature audience. Overall, the differences between the main characters, plots, and intended audiences of the two films Romeo and Julietand Gnomeo and Juliet are significantly evident. romeo By keirakekkk

7 Must-Have Items for Your Author Media Kit
7 Must-Have Items for Your Author Media Kit Youre finally done with your book. But youre exhausted. And vulnerable to making mistakes. Before you plunge ahead with marketing, dont miss a critical tool whose absence could push your book into the remainder bin. You must create a complete, well-written author media kit. This package of marketing materials brands you and your print or digital book. If built correctly, the media kit includes items that will help journalists, bloggers, reviewers, retailers, individual buyers, event planners and others promote, sell and buzz about your book. Here are seven things indie authors shouldnt do without in an author media kit: 1. Cheat Sheet for Book Reviewers Three out of four authors who ask me to review their books fail to send the bare minimum a press release. If I dont find one, I put the book on my bookshelf. A year later, when Im de-junking, your book ends up in a cardboard box I donate to the church rummage sale. Tuck a short note in your book with a link that leads me to your digital media kit. Help me find your press release, great photos and a cheat sheet that tie into your title, and Im interested. 2. Sell Sheet for Retailers Bookstore buyers dont want the same information youd give to a reviewer. They want whats referred to as a sell sheet. A sell sheet includes a short summary of your book. Additional information about your marketing plan will help buyers compare your book to similar books on their shelves, and shows them how hard you work to help them sell your book. This should be full-color, and professionally designed, printed on 100 lb. Text-Gloss paper. 3. How to Order Form for Readers Youll need a marketing piece that explains about the book, and includes several killer endorsements and a How to Order form. The order form must address issues such as bulk orders, sales tax, C.O.D. payments, shipping and how to pay with a credit card. Its similar to the sell sheet for bookstores, but its for individual book buyers, not sellers. 4. Press Release with a High-Res Cover Image Consumer and industry magazines love featuring books. The New Product Section of these publications could be the perfect home for your book if you can provide a high-resolution photo of your book cover. Editors tell me they are practically begging for good-quality photos for these sections. 5. Interview Topics or Questions If you write and deliver a pitch that gets you booked on a talk show, dont show up at the station without a list of questions the interviewer can ask you. Most talk show hosts will not read your book. Broadcasters rely on these questions as a crutch. 6. Author

Worst Ways to Remove a Tick
Worst Ways to Remove a Tick Is there anything worse than finding a tick embedded in your skin? Besides the ick factor, tick bites are a definite cause for concern, because many ticks transmit disease-causing pathogens. In general, the faster you remove the tick, the less your chance of getting Lyme disease or other tick-borne illnesses. Unfortunately, theres a lot of bad information being shared about how to remove ticks from your skin. Some people swear that these methods work, but scientific studies have proven them wrong. If you have a tick embedded in your skin, please read carefully. These are the 5 worst ways to remove a tick. Burn It With a Hot Match Why people think it works: The working theory here is that if you hold something hot against the ticks body, it will become so uncomfortable it will let go and flee. Dr. Glen Needham of Ohio State University found that holding a hot match against an embedded tick did nothing to convince the tick to let go. Needham also noted that this tick removal strategy actually increases your risk of pathogen exposure. Heating the tick can cause it to rupture, increasing your exposure to any diseases it may carry. Also, heat makes the tick salivate, and sometimes even regurgitate, again increasing your exposure to pathogens in the ticks body. And do I need to mention that you can burn yourself trying to hold a hot match against a tiny tick on your skin? Smother It With Petroleum Jelly Why people think it works: If you completely cover the tick with something thick and gooey like petroleum jelly, it wont be able to breathe and will have to back out to keep from suffocating. This is an interesting idea that has some basis in reality, since ticks breathe via spiracles and not their mouths. But whoever hatched this theory didnt have a complete understanding of tick physiology. Ticks, according to Needham, have extremely slow respiration rates. When a tick is moving about, it may only breathe 15 times in an hour; while resting comfortably on a host, doing nothing more than feeding, it breathes as little as 4 times per hour. So smothering it with petroleum jelly could take a very long time. Its a lot quicker to simply pluck the tick off with tweezers. Coat It With Nail Polish Why people think it works: This folklore method follows the same reasoning as the petroleum jelly technique. If you completely cover the tick in nail polish, it will start to suffocate and give up its grip. Smothering a tick with nail polish is just as ineffective, if not more so. Needham determinedà that once the nail polish hardened, the tick became immobilized and was therefore unable to retreat from the host. If you coat a tick with nail polish, you are simply securing it in place. Pour Rubbing Alcohol on It Why people think it works: Maybe because they read it in Readers Digest? Were not sure of their source for this tidbit, but Readers Digest has claimed ticks hate the taste of rubbing alcohol. Perhaps they think a tick doused in rubbing alcohol will loosen its grip in order to spit and cough in disgust? However, rubbing alcohol isnt without merit when it comes to removing ticks. It is good practice to clean the affected area with rubbing alcohol to prevent infection of the tick bite wound. But that, according to Dr. Needham, is the sole benefit of putting rubbing alcohol on a tick. It does nothing to convince the tick to go. Unscrew It Why people think it works: The theory here is that by grabbing and twisting the tick, it will somehow be forced to lose its grip and pop free of your skin. Dr. Elisa McNeill of Texas AM University has an amusing retort for this tick removal method ââ¬â tick mouthparts are not threaded (like screws)! You cannot unscrew a tick. The reason a tick can maintain such a good hold on your skin is because it has lateral barbs extending from its mouthparts to anchor it in place. Hard ticks also produce a cement of sorts to fasten themselves down. So all that twisting isnt going to get you anywhere. If you twist an embedded tick, you will most likely succeed in separating its body from its head, and the head will remain stuck in your skin where it can become infected. Now that you know the wrong ways to remove ticks, learn how to remove a tick safely and effectively (from the Centers for Disease Control). Or better yet, follow theseà tips for avoiding ticks so you never have to remove one from your skin. Sources Evaluation of Five Popular Methods of Tick Removal, Glen R. Humen Resource Managment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Humen Resource Managment - Essay Example It is not uncommon to find views that are categorically different from the ones that were made and what we believe in could be belied by taking up a different perception. For every view, there is always a string of arguments to support the cause and there by reinforce the thought process. Similarly the case under question, namely, the union issue with the Universities for a rise in the salary levels may be taken up and studied. Differing actors and stakeholders in the issue would only be offering different perception to the same story or rather same history. When this incident is revisited, it is found that the earliest newspaper reports bank on the issue that the students' assessments are affected and the students are going to have hard time because of the staffs of the university and their 'unilateral' strike decisions. It is also found that the villains of the show, were asking for a rise in the salary when everybody 'thought' that they always were better paid and enjoyed a more stable and 'no pressure' life style. The strike and the pay rise were both looked at as the ones caused because of their inherent 'greediness' that went with the people's aim to make more money and live like their business counterparts. Secondly, the university is a service and it cannot be viewed as a profit making exercise for the universities! While so, how can the staff of the university expect a rise that is not commensurate with the rate of change in the living conditions of the community (BBC News 21 Apr 2006) Thirdly, the university staffs already had a higher and more comfortable pay scale. Therefore, they found that the rate of rise in the following years was not in line with the inflation rates in the country. The radical view Once the views of a multitude of stake holders are included in the perception, the views of the staffs are also included (Simon Felton 10 Apr 2006). This view would throw open the following: The villains The Vice Chancellors The Problem Unknown reasons of the employers Motive Only to reduce the cost to the Universities. Credit To the employers. In this case, all the credit for holding on to the salary levels of the staff went to the vice chancellors and the employers. Fixed qualities Complacency, indifference and recklessness Emotions Suffering of the students and delayed assessments. The radical view on the other hand, specifies that the vice chancellors of the universities had acted as villains. They had not responded to numerous requests in the last twenty years to improve the salary levels

Plz follow the instruction Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Plz follow the instruction - Research Paper Example The global outlook advocates ample coordination between the various safety departments (Manuele, 2005). This paper will explore the scope of a coordinated approach to address the crash risks in relation to road haulage. Globalization has increased the volume of freight, and road transportation is a prime area of focus. Since the haulage systems are not fully mechanized or computerized, focus on the human factor is essential. The paper aims to evaluate the risk of crashes entailed in haulage along with scrutiny of research, regulation, regulation, and awareness in this field. It also looks into the current and future risk mitigation measures. In this paper, a specific safety risk has been selected. It is the safety risk of crash associated with road haulage. The history of how the mitigation of this risk has been addressed in research studies, regulation, and public awareness campaigns has been researched and analyzed. Also, the findings are summarized, current risk mitigation efforts are evaluated, and recommendations are made for the future. The business of road haulage depends on the fleet of Lorries that are used for general and long distance haulage across the United States and to the countries like Mexico and Canada. Risk assessment and management for the drivers involved in this kind of transportation business is critical. The safety risk is mainly centered on the crash possibilities. Again, the risk of a dangerous road crash during haulage depends on certain important factors. There is a technical difference between the terms risk and hazard. Risk is generally considered as combining a hazard with its associated probability (American Society of Safety Engineers, 1990). Safety risk involved in road haulage depends on certain hazards associated to their possibilities, especially in the case of crash possibilities. The risk of crashes in road haulage can be evaluated on the basis of certain factors of hazards in combination with their high possibility and o ccurrence. Dangerous goods transportation is a primary consideration. Accident of a truck carrying fertilizers or explosive chemical cannot only injure the driver but damage the locality and environment as well (Fabiano et al, 2002). Hand held cell phone use during driving is also a prominent risk factor (McCartt and Hellinga, 2007). Possibility of collisions with other vehicles particularly at the intersections is another serious risk. The driverââ¬â¢s age is an important consideration in this regard (Mayhew et al, 2006). Driver fatigue, particularly during the long haul, is another risk factor entailed in the crash possibilities of road haulage. Mitigation of a safety risk is possible of course. History of mitigation of risks in regards of road haulage is interesting indeed. In the case of road haulage, combined effort from the authorities concerned with occupational safety and highway security is necessary. In 1970, the Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH act) was passed. ââ¬Å"The act allowed national collection of OHS statistics for the first time. Occupational safety and health standards are put out by the Department of Labor and take legal precedence over state laws and regulations.â⬠(Taylor et al, 2004: 114) Thus, an inter-state framework for the safety of the

Mars chocolate supply chain process Essay Example for Free
Mars chocolate supply chain process Essay The chocolate supply chain involves everyone who plays a part in producing chocolate, from local governments to international certification organizations and multi-national manufacturers. To achieve sucess, all of these players must collaborate effectively and prioritize farmer benefit at origin over competitive advantage. By putting farmers first and training them , Mars is aiming to strengthen its supply chain as a whole and to move towards a more sustainable cocoa economy. Most of the cocoa imported by MARS is grown by individual cocoa farmers and their families on plots smaller than five acres (two hectares) in rural parts of West Africa, Asia and the America. Local buyers in these countries collect cocoa beans from many farmers, either after harvest or after they have been dried or fermented. Exporters then buy cocoa beans from a network of the local buyers and prepare them for international shipping and processing to Mars factories . The exporter can be a local marketing company, a global commodity trader, an international agricultural business, a cocoa processor or a government In Africa, Mars has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ivorian government for long-term collaboration and investment in cocoa. It is also working closely with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), the Brazilian National Research Center (CEPLAC) and the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture to obtain better quality for chocolate manufacturing. Mars is the first global chocolate company to commit to sourcing all of their cocoa from certified sources by 2020. In 2011, they purchased 10% of their cocoa from certified sources, and in 2012 exceeded it to 20 percent and become the worldââ¬â¢s largest user of certified cocoa. They currently buy cocoa certified by the Rainforest Alliance, UTZ Certified and Fairtrade. While consumer choices determine demand throughout the cocoa market, it is the manufacturer that meets this demand directly and so sets standards that affect the whole supply chain. Having such an influential role means manufacturers have a duty to ensure that the supply chain supporting their products operates in a responsible and sustainable way. Although Mars cannot have direct relationships with every individual farmer, by choosing to use certified cocoa in their products, the company aims to enable industry-wide improvements in productivity, incomes and sustainability. When the cocoa beans arrive at the factory they are processed into the cocoa products that can be used in manufacturing chocolate. These include cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and cocoa powder. Most processing occurs away from the countries where cocoa is grown because it is more efficient to process and manufacture the products close to where they will be consumed.. What happens during processing has a direct effect on the flavor and qualities of the resulting chocolate. The taste and texture of a particular chocolate product depends on the each recipie , which remains a guarded secret of the company. Mars uses different types and proportions of cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and other ingredients such as milk and sugar to make their products consistent with the brand. They use a mix of beet and cane sugar in our chocolate and confectionery products and source most of it within the region in which it will be used. For several years, they have worked closely with direct suppliers to ensure our sugar is responsibly sourced, while maintaining the highest levels of quality . They need a consistent and high-quality supply of peanuts for some of our most popular products, including SNICKERSà ® and MMââ¬â¢Sà ®. Jointly funding the U. S. Peanut Resources and Efficiency Measures Report conducted by the independent research firm IHS Global Insight, which found major potential improvements in farming practices among U. S. peanut farmers as they are its major suppliers . Dairy ingredients are a critical component of many of our milk chocolate and caramel brands . These are obtained by collaborating with other consumer brand companies and suppliers throughout the local markets that comply with the companys supplier code of conduct . The finished chocolate product is then packaged. The packaging is made in the factory usuing materials such as metal , paper and plastics which is purchased locally. Their strategy is to reduce, recycle and rethink our packaging. This is not easy, as alternative materials that appear more sustainable in one respect often have a greater impact elsewhere. They use lifecycle assessment to ensure that they do not make progress in one area, only to undermine it somewhere else . For packaging they also work with suppliers, universities, other industries and expert partners to share learning and innovation. In Australia, Wrigley committed to the National Packaging Covenant in 2005, and has signed the updated Australian Packaging Covenant . The finished product is via the company owned transport local distributors. The distributors can be individuals , a private enterprise or the government which transport the chocolate to local stores and marts and also to exporters of the finished products . As one of the leading food manufacturers in the world, Mars has a significant international presence in more than 73 countries.

Suspect in USS Cole bombing kills self in Yemen :: essays research papers
A suspected al Qaeda terrorist wanted in connection with the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole blew himself up with a grenade late Wednesday as Yemeni security forces closed in on him in Yemen's capital city, security sources said. Authorities had gone to a suspected al Qaeda hideout, a house in a poor section of Sana'a's downtown, and a firefight ensued. The suspect jumped into a taxi, and as authorities tried to stop the vehicle, the man pulled out a grenade and was apparently trying to throw it when it exploded in his hand, sources said. A police statement identified the suspect as Sameer Mohammed al-Hada, a 25-year-old Yemen native. He was one of the most important people on a list of wanted al Qaeda suspects that the United States had given to Yemeni officials, sources said. Al-Hada was wanted in connection with the bombing of the Cole, which killed 17 U.S. sailors and wounded 39. Yemeni security sources said al-Hada had trained in Afghanistan. Security sources said al-Hada's family extensive ties to terrorism. One of al-Hada's sisters was married to one of the suspected September 11 hijackers who piloted an American Airlines jet into the Pentagon. His other sister, they said, is married to Mustafa Abdulkader Aabed al-Ansari, a Yemen native whose name showed up on an FBI terrorist alert late Monday. In that alert, the FBI warned law enforcement agencies and the public to be on the lookout for 18 suspected al Qaeda operatives, most from Yemen, who are planning an attack against U.S. interests. Al-Hada's name was not on the terror alert. In addition, one U.S. official said, al-Hada "was also the son of a man believed to be prominent in Al Qaeda." Yemen cracks down on al Qaeda The relationship between the United States and Yemen occasionally became strained in the months following the Cole bombing, with cultural differences hindering cooperation between the two countries. That changed following the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington. Gen. Tommy Franks, head of the U.S. Central Command, visited Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Salih this week, and President Bush called Salih on Monday, thanking him for his country's cooperation in the fight against terror. One U.S. official said Yemen had "one of the most significant" al Qaeda organizational links in the world. Thousands of veterans of the Soviet-Afghan war live in Yemen and are capable of launching "uncoordinated or coordinated attacks," diplomatic sources told CNN in October.

Rooseveltâ⬠One of the greatest Presidentââ¬â¢s in the history of the United States if America was four term elected, 32nd President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. President Roosevelt led the United States through two of the greatest crises of the 20th century: the Great Depression and World War II. In so doing, he greatly expanded the powers of the federal government through a series of programs and reforms known as the New Deal, and he served as the principal architect of President Roosevelt had succeeded former President Hoover, who had led the country into the worse financial instability ever in our young countryââ¬â¢s history. Both men, in order to create something out of nothing, have or had plans to build economic stimulating programs. But one manââ¬â¢s ideas are tried and proven while the others has yet to be given the opportunity to flourish. In that respect only time can really tell how these two great leaders share strengths through trying times.

American Colonial Period essays
American Colonial Period essays The period from 1690 to 1760 saw massive changes in the social, political and economic landscape of early America. Because of the importance of travel and agriculture, the first colonies grew along the coasts. The colonies were self-sufficient and had distinct cultures.
